Four academic houses make up smaller schools within the large one, each with 600 students, a Principal, Theme Specialist, Dean of Students, and particular focus: Math, Science, and Technical Preparation; Health, Sports, and Recreation; Business, Finance, and Entrepreneurship; and Visual, Performing, and Communications Arts. Unique to the new NFHS is a layout design that allows the students-only sections of the school to be locked off from the facilities shared by the students and community.

The facilities now available to the community are extraordinary. Niagara Falls youth and adults now enjoy the benefits of Technology, Wellness, Recreational, and Performing Arts Centers. Community agencies, e.g., United Way, Family & Children’s Services, and Opportunities Unlimited for the Disabled, have opened satellite offices in the NFHS, along with a police substation. And, as part of the site-contract with the city, the NFSB made major improvements to Sal Maglie Stadium, the City Ice Rink, and neighborhood thoroughfares.

September 1, 2000 the new NFHS opened its doors to its students and to the community. Constructed with no increase in local taxes, it is a revolutionary model of school financing, partnering, programming, leadership and technology. NFHS truly manifests the District’s mission – Learning for all…whatever it takes.
