The Honeywell Corporation, Minneapolis, MN, has been in business for
115 years. Honeywell and the NFSD have been in a working relationship
since 1995, when Honeywell retrofitted the energy systems for 18 district
buildings, using performance-based contracting with great success. Honeywell
served the project as Program Manager.
The Hillier Group’s K-12 Public Education Studio specializes
in the skills needed for the building of public primary, secondary,
and university level schools. Their experience also includes
highly technical education buildings for the Navy. Their expertise
is recognized internationally for architectural design, engineering
and planning, as well as in school construction laws, regulations,
standards, and procedures.
A High School Quality Council, made up of the original two
high school councils, collaborated to create a vision of teaching
and learning for the future students of the new high school.
Organized into four teams, the Council researched Teaching,
Learning, Content, and Context. They utilized the Total Quality
Management process, applied the principles in |
Breaking Ranks, and were mentored by Dr. Lawrence Lezotte, a State Department
of Education consultant for innovative education. More than 175 recommendations,
made by the Council, have been delivered.
THE NEW HIGH SCHOOL
The New Niagara Falls High School is one of the most technologically
advanced education facilities in the U.S.
It is designed to be a model for 21st century education in
a global economy and a civic center for the community, in which
it resides. The 380,200 square foot facility houses 2,500 students
in grades nine through twelve.
The center of the school is a Technology Core, a two and one-half
story atrium, the center for information with a library and
naturally lit open research space. Computers, TV monitors,
and printed material gather and disseminate information. Laptop
computers are provided for each student. E-learning is building
wide. Community access
to the Technology Center is available around student schedules.
